Dermal Fillers for Men

Dermal Fillers For Men

The Benefits of Male Dermal Fillers

Due to the more pronounced ageing signs in male skin, which is a consequence of having tough skin, more men are using dermal fillers to turn back the clock. Dermal fillers are safe, natural, tissue friendly and can be used in various ways to improve the appearance of men’s faces. Dermal fillers come in a variety of preparations which all reduce lines and wrinkles as well as augmenting the jaw, cheek and chin.

Anti-ageing applications for dermal fillers include:

  • Reducing smile and nasolabial lines (running vertically from the bottom of the nose the corners of the mouth) – an especially popular area for correction among male patients.
  • Improving the appearance of a sagging or downturned mouth by reducing ‘marionette lines’ (running vertically below the corners of the mouth).
  • Lessening tear troughs (the hollows beneath the eyes).
  • Minimising worry lines (running horizontally across the forehead).

Dermal fillers can also be used to help embolden masculine features through lip and cheekbone enhancement in addition to changing the shape of the jaw and chin to improve facial contours.

What are Dermal Fillers?

Almost every cell in the body contains hyaluronic acid but it is particularly concentrated in the skin tissue. It is this, present in both the top epidermal layer and deep dermal layers of the skin, which gives young male skin its smooth and elastic properties.

Hyaluronic acid is often called ‘the body’s internal moisturiser’ as it can bind up to 1000 times its weight in water keeping the skin hydrated. As the body ages, the skin’s ability to produce hyaluronic acid decreases and the skin can begin to lose its youthful properties.

Cosmetic dermal fillers are made of hyaluronic acid and are used to restore firmness and plumpness to the skin. However, men tend to require a larger dose than women due having tougher skin.

The Procedure

Usually lasting between 30 and 45 minutes, the procedure is simple and painless as local anaesthetic is added to the fillers. This combination is injected into the treatment area using a fine needle syringe and the results are visible immediately. The recovery time is minimal and some slight redness or bruising may occur.
